Featured BEP Group: AVSC Nordic Gives Back Through Volunteer Work Trip
10th Mountain Huts
October 27, 2025
This month’s featured BEP group is the Aspen Valley Ski Club’s Nordic Race Team. Over the summer, the team completed a multi-day volunteer session up at the Benedict Huts above Aspen, as they’ve now done for several years in a row. Alongside their coaches, the group of about 15 athletes took on numerous projects, helping to deep-clean the huts, complete any needed repairs and improvement projects, assist with fire mitigation work and wood stocking, and more – helping to ensure the huts are in tip-top shape for this coming winter season.
While the trip is of course a big help to 10th Mountain, AVSC Nordic Program Director Sophie Hamilton says it’s uniquely beneficial for the team too, highlighting a great community partnership.
“This trip is meaningful because it allows us to give back to the community that supports us while experiencing the difference between working hard and hard work,” she said. “Our athletes train with dedication everyday, but there’s something especially rewarding about rolling up our sleeves and helping prepare a place that provides such a special experience for so many people in our community.”
Thank you, AVSC Nordic, for being a valued member of our Backcountry Exploration Program!
