Shrine Mountain Inn consists of three separate cabins (Jay's, Chuck's, Walter's) that sleep a total of 36 people. A shared sauna is located between Chuck's and Jay's, and propane grills are provided at each cabin. Shrine Mountain Inn is privately owned and booked through 10th Mountain.
Jay's layout and capacity: Capacity 12 total. Upstairs: 1 bedroom with a double bed, 1 bedroom with 2 single beds, 1 single bed in the hall. Main floor: 1 bedroom with a queen. Downstairs: 5 single beds in a communal sleeping area. Hot and cold running water. Two indoor bathrooms with flush toilets, one with shower, one with bathtub. Kitchen has cook oven and stove top, refrigerator and generator powered lighting. Spaces may be booked individually
Chuck's layout and capacity: Capacity 12 total, divided into two levels, each sleeping six people. Upstairs: 2 bedrooms, 1 with a double bed, 1 with 2 single beds, and 2 single day beds in the main room. Hot and cold running water, refrigerator. Two indoor bathrooms with flush toilets, upstairs has bathtub, downstairs has shower. Wood burning heat stove, propane cook oven and stove top, refrigerator and generator powered lighting. You must rent the entire upstairs (All six spaces). Downstairs: layout and amenities are the same as upstairs, (except bathroom has shower), propane heat stove, no deck, no refrigerator. You must rent the entire downstairs (all six spaces).
Walter's layout and capacity: Capacity 12 total, divided into two levels, each sleeping 6 people. Upstairs: 2 bedrooms: 1 with a queen bed, 1 with 2 single beds, and 2 single day beds in the main room. Wood burning heat stove, hot and cold running water, refrigerator, indoor bathrooms with showers, flush toilets. Propane oven, and generator powered lighting. You must rent the entire upstairs (All six spaces). Downstairs: layout and amenities are the same as upstairs, except with a propane heat stove. There is a deck. You must rent the entire downstairs (All six spaces).

Hut Location: While located far enough from paved roads to keep a backcountry mood, the cabins of Shrine Mountain Inn are perhaps the least difficult 10th Mountain "ski in" huts to access. An ideal first hut trip, these cabins are 2.7 miles from Interstate Highway 70, Vail Pass Trailhead. [locator map]

Vail Pass Winter Recreation Area Fee This hut is located in the Vail Pass Winter Recreation Area. Use of this hut during most of the winter requires payment of additional fees to the U.S. Forest service that will be charged at the time you make your reservation. This is not a parking fee; it applies regardless of which trailhead is used. The $10.00 per person per night fee is in effect from Thanksgiving through the end of April, children 15 and under are free. More information.
Winter Trail Access
The main summer access to the Shrine Mountain Inn Cabins is hiking, biking or driving up Shrine Pass Road to the huts. Please note though that the Shrine Pass Road is seasonally closed until June 21st each year, regardless of conditions. For a truly challenging mountain bike ride you can also try riding up the Commando Run from Vail. There are no established summer hiking trails to this hut.Vehicle access is never guaranteed to any hut at any time.
For day hiking you can follow the trail from the huts to the top of Shrine Ridge for spectacular views of the Gore Range. Mountain bikers or hikers can also take the Commando Run down into Vail, just figure out a shuttle back to the hut before you leave.
