Route Description

This suggested route is in our opinion the best way to the Eiseman Hut. Start with climbing skins at the Spraddle Creek Trailhead. Ski the snow covered Spraddle Creek jeep trail about 1.8 miles, then take a hard left off the road and head N across Spraddle Creek.

Follow a route that swings W then N around a shoulder, gradually drops ¾ mile to Middle Creek (9,490 feet), then follows the Middle Creek drainage 1 1/4 miles to 10,500 feet. Here the nature of the trail changes abruptly as it swings N and climbs about a mile of steep switchbacks through timber to the Eiseman Hut. The hut is not visible until you break out of the trees a few feet away.

Locations of Observed or Reported Avalanche Activity: No avalanche activity has been reported along this suggested route.

Trailhead Directions

Drive Interstate Highway 70 to the Vail Resort. Take the main Vail exit (#176) and at the N roundabout turn E onto Spraddle Creek Road. Continue up the steep paved road .7 miles to the Spraddle Creek Estates entrance gate (no parking here). Leave the pavement by taking a hard right on to Spraddle Creek Road, and continue .1 mile to the parking area. Please carpool and park sensibly as space is limited.

Please note that parking at Lower Spraddle Creek is no longer available.

Additional overnight parking and a free frontage road shuttle is available from the Vail Village parking structure. There is also overnight parking at the Lionshead parking structure (no frontage road shuttles).
