Route Description

4WD/High Clearance

Beginning at the junction of Highways 24 and 91 north of Leadville, drive north on Highway 24 for approximately 3 miles to CR 18 (East Tennessee Road). Take a right on CR 18 and drive approximately 1.75 miles north to a Y-intersection. Veer right at the Y and continue on FS Road 102 for approximately 2.5 miles to the intersection with the road that accesses the hut. Take a right turn onto this access road and you will find a closed, unlocked, green gate. Hut visitors are permitted to travel through this gate – be sure to close it after use. Continue on the access road for .75 miles (passing the Jenny June Mine) to the hut parking area and a second gate which is locked. The walk from this parking area to the hut is about .25 miles.  Two gear carts are provided (unlike other huts, these gear carts are not locked). It is a steep climb from this second gate to the hut – pack accordingly.

Summer parking at the Emmelyn Hut is about .25 miles from the hut at the locked closure gate. 2 gear carts are provided (unlike other huts, these gear carts are not locked).
