Route Description

EISEMAN HUT FROM VAIL: 4WD High Clearance via FS Roads 700, 786 & 719.

Starting from I-70 in Vail, the drive to the Eiseman Hut is approximately 10 miles via Red Sandstone Road (FS Road 700), and FS Roads 786 & 719.

Drive I-70 to Vail. Take the main Vail exit (#176) and at the N roundabout turn W onto the frontage road. Drive the frontage road 1 mile W, then turn right on to Red Sandstone Road (FS Road 700). Note your mileage, and head up Red Sandstone Road about 3.3 miles where you’ll encounter your first major intersection. Continue N here rather than heading left, following FS Road 786 for approximately 1.4 miles to another intersection. At the intersection of FS Road 786 and FS Road 719 take the right fork. Follow FS Road 719 for approximately 5.3 miles to the hut parking area and locked closure gate. Gear carts are provided for the short but steep hike up to the hut.
